The New York City Fire Museum celebrates the excitement and drama of more than one hundred years of firefighting. Home of the richest collection of fire memorabilia in the country, the Museum is housed in a renovated Beaux-arts style firehouse built in 1904.

Highlights include beautifully preserved fire engines from Colonial times to the present, and these machines are something to behold!

Ingenious contraptions, in their day they were vehicles of utility, tools for fighting fires and saving lives and property. Today they remain ingenious, but somehow seem more like works of art than mere tools. Even today’s state-of-the-art fire engines inspire children and adults alike as they go by. Perhaps only the railroad can equal the romanticism evoked by firefighting vehicles.

In the Parade Room, visitors will enjoy exhibits displaying the glowing traditions and pageantry of firefighting in the days of old. Other special exhibitions, permanent and changing, enlighten viewers about a proud past.

Even more important than the great historical and artistic value of the Museum is its highly acclaimed Fire Safety Education Program. Every year thousands of children are taught important fire safety rules, including how to help prevent fires and what to do if they are caught in one. One can only guess how many lives this program has saved so far.

This program is available for Families and School Groups alike. A School Group consists of from 10 to 35 people

Hours: Tuesday thru Saturday, 10am - 5pm and Sunday 10am - 4pm.
