The well known Lake Placid and Saranac Lake areas are also located within a few miles of the Adirondack Regional Airport. Regular airline service is provided by Continental Connection which has four flights a day to and from Boston Logan with some flights flying through Clinton County Airport on the way to Boston. The flights are operated by CommutAir which flies the Beechcraft 1900 turboprop aircraft. Airline service is subsidized by the Essential Air Service program.

Facilities
Adirondack Regional Airport covers 1,499 acres and has two runways.

History
In the 1960s, the Adirondack Airport had three runways. Runway 16/34 was 4000 feet long and 100 feet wide, but was abandoned sometime between the mid 1970s and early 1980s. The main runway was lengthened from approximately 5000 feet to its present length during the early 1970s or thereabouts and an instrument landing system and approach lighting system was installed on the southwest-facing runway 23. Also, a parallel taxiway was added to almost the full length of runway 9-27 and a partial parallel taxiway was added between the abandoned northwest-southeast runway - part of which was converted into a taxiway and the approach end of runway 23.
