Completed in the summer of 1993, UB Stadium is the home of the football Bulls, as well as UB’s track and field teams. With additional construction completed in the summer of 1999 the stadium seats 31,000 spectators. The official ground-breaking was held on September 17, 1991, and the $23 million complex was financed by the New York State Dormitory Authority. The stadium was the site of track and field competition and closing ceremonies for the 1993 World University Games, an event which attracted more than 5,000 athletes from over 130 countries. The facility was also the site of the 1998 men’s and women’s NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the first Division I championship ever contested in Western New York.

An eight-lane, 400-meter track circles the stadium’s natural surface infield, with 186-foot, free-standing light towers providing lighting for nighttime events. The stadium also houses administrative offices and meeting rooms, state-of-the-art training facilities, physical conditioning equipment, two large locker rooms capable of housing 800 athletes, 12 luxury suites and a 45-seat press box.

OLD UB STADIUM

The former home of UB football and track and field teams, the stadium seats 4,000 spectators in permanent bleachers with additional “berm” seating and standing room on the northwest side.

Completed in August, 1985, the stadium was first used for the 1985 Empire State Games, which attracted 10,000 athletes and coaches to opening ceremonies. The $3.5 million stadium features a synthetic field surface, “Omniturf”, encircled by an eight lane, 400-meter running track.

The track also features a steeplechase course with a water jump inside removable curbing.
The stadium was enhanced in the fall of 1987 with the installation of a $150,000 electronic scoreboard featuring a message board financed by the UB Foundation, Inc., and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Buffalo, Inc. In addition to the 1985, 1986 and 1996 Empire State Games, old UB Stadium has been utilized for the New York Special Olympics Summer Games, several scholastic and collegiate championships as well as the site for a Republican rally for Presidential candidate Bob Dole and his running mate Jack Kemp.

From the West (Cleveland, Erie, Chicago)
Take the I-90 East until you reach the I-290 (past the Buffalo airport exit). Take the I-290 West (sign is for Niagara Falls) and proceed until Exit 5B (Millersport Highway, Rte 263). Get off exit and merge into traffic. Go through first light (Marriott is on your left) but move into right lane. Enter campus at the Flint Street exit and follow signs to athletic events.

From the East (Rochester, Albany, New York City)
Take the I-90 West until you reach the I-290 (just past tolls, follow State University signs). Take the I-290 West (sign is for Niagara Falls) and proceed until Exit 5B (Millersport Highway, Rte 263). Get off exit and merge into traffic. Go through first light (Marriott is on your left) but move into right lane. Enter campus at the Flint Street exit and follow signs to athletic events.

From the South (Pittsburgh)
Take I-79 North until you get to Erie, PA. Take the I-90 East until you reach the I-290 (past the Buffalo airport exit). Take the I-290 West (sign is for Niagara Falls) and proceed until Exit 5B (Millersport Highway, Rte 263). Get off exit and merge into traffic. From the North (Canada)
Take the QEW to the Queenston/Lewiston Bridge. Once across bridge get on I-190 South. Follow I-190 South until you reach the I-290 East and proceed until Exit 5B (Millersport Highway, Rte 263). Get off exit and merge into traffic. Go through first light (Marriott is on your left) but move into right lane. Enter campus at the Flint Street exit and follow signs to athletic events.
