Mitchel Athletic Complex

The Mitchel Athletic Complex is part of the Mitchel Field complex, located in Uniondale, New York, in the United States. Mitchel Athletic Complex was built in 1984 and renovated in 1997; it hosted track and field events during the 1998 Goodwill Games. Mitchel Athletic Complex (also called Mitchel Park and Mitchel Field) is currently home to the Long Island Rough Riders pro soccer team and the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse. The 2003 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game was held at Mitchel. It was also the home of WUSA’s New York Power.

The Meadowlands Sports Complex is a sports and entertainment facility located in East Rutherford, New Jersey owned and operated by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA). The site currently consists of three venues: Giants Stadium, the Meadowlands Racetrack (aka The Big M), and the Continental Airlines Arena (formerly the Brendan Byrne Arena).

History

In the mid-1960s, civic leaders in New Jersey began calling for a sports complex in the New Jersey Meadowlands that would be able to lure a National Football League team from New York. The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority Law was passed by the New Jersey Legislature in 1971 and signed by then-Governor of New Jersey William T. Cahill. (more…)

Lynah Rink is a 4,267-seat hockey arena at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, that opened in 1957. Louis Armstrong Stadium is the second tennis stadium of the U.S. Open, the last of each year’s four Grand Slam tournaments. It is located at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, in the New York City borough of Queens. The stadium was named after the famous African American jazz musician, Louis Armstrong.

The Singer Bowl opened on the site in 1964 for the 1964 New York World’s Fair, sponsored by the Singer Corporation. In 1977, the US Open moved to Flushing from Forest Hills. The Singer Bowl was heavily renovated to host the Open, essentially being divided into two new stadia, Louis Armstrong Stadium and the adjacent grandstand. KeySpan Park is a minor league baseball stadium in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, New York City. The home team is the New York Mets-affiliated Brooklyn Cyclones of the New York - Penn League. Official seating capacity is 7,500.

Features include a concourse with free-standing concession buildings and overhanging fluorescent lamps in different colors, evoking an amusement park atmosphere. In addition, the park overlooks the Atlantic Ocean as well as the famous Parachute Jump. KeySpan Park was built on the old site of Steeplechase Park, an old-time Coney Island amusement park that closed in 1964 amid crime and general deterioration of Coney Island and the subways that run to the area. The Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium is the main stadium for the State University of New York at Stony Brook in Stony Brook, New York, USA. Construction began in 2000 at a cost of approximately $22 million. With a capacity of approximately 8,300 people, it is the largest outdoor facility in Suffolk County. The stadium is home to the Division I Seawolves, including soccer, lacrosse, and football teams. The stadium opened on September 14, 2002. On October 19, 2002, it was officially named after Kenneth P. LaValle, the New York state senator who was instrumental in getting the legislative funding available for the construction of the stadium.
